Turbine Oils FAQs

What is turbine oil?
Turbine oil is a highly refined, oxidation-resistant circulating oil (an R&O — rust and oxidation inhibited oil) used to lubricate and cool turbine bearings and governor systems. It prioritises long oxidation life, water separation and air release over the heavy anti-wear additives used in hydraulic oils.
What is the difference between turbine oil and hydraulic oil?
Both can share a viscosity grade, but turbine oils emphasise very high oxidation stability and demulsibility for long service in circulating systems, while anti-wear hydraulic oils carry a stronger anti-wear additive package for high-pressure pumps. They are formulated for different duties — use the type the equipment specifies.
Which ISO VG should I use for a steam turbine?
Follow the turbine maker's recommendation. ISO VG 32 and 46 are common for high-speed steam and gas turbines, while hydro turbines and heavier systems may use VG 68 or 100. Share the equipment details and we will confirm the grade.
What pack sizes are available?
Haruto Nexa turbine oils are typically available in 50 L and 210 L packs. Request a data sheet or quote for other sizes and bulk terms.
