Compressor Oils FAQs

 

What is VDL compressor oil?
VDL is a classification from DIN 51506 for air-compressor oils with the highest thermal stability and lowest carbon-forming tendency in that standard. VDL-grade oils resist oxidation and deposit build-up at the high discharge temperatures inside compressors.
Which grade should I use for a rotary-screw compressor?
Follow the compressor maker's recommendation. Many rotary-screw units use an ISO VG 46 or 68; reciprocating compressors and hotter duties may call for VG 100 or 150. Send us the make and model and we will confirm.
Can I use hydraulic oil in an air compressor?
It is not recommended. Compressor oils are formulated for high discharge temperatures with low carbon-forming tendency and specific oxidation control that hydraulic oils do not provide. Use a dedicated VDL compressor oil.
What pack sizes are available?
